U4N Covers Path of Exile 2’s December 11 Version 1.0 Update
Grinding Gear Games has officially set December 11, 2026, as the release date for Path of Exile 2 Version 1.0. Revealed during Gamescom 2026, the announcement confirms that the sequel will move beyond Early Access with additional campaign content, a new Duelist class, and a free-to-play launch. The news is especially relevant for players who have spent the Early Access period learning about Path of Exile 2 Currency and preparing their builds.
The sequel first launched into Early Access in December 2024. Since then, Grinding Gear Games has steadily expanded the game while responding to player feedback. Version 1.0 is now set to transform that evolving experience into the game's official release.
A complete story is coming
The campaign will receive its final two acts with Version 1.0. These additions are expected to expand the narrative considerably and give players a longer progression path before they reach the endgame.
For players who already completed the currently available story content, the new acts will provide fresh encounters and objectives. Newcomers, meanwhile, will eventually be able to experience a much more complete version of the campaign from beginning to end.
The campaign is more than a story component. It also introduces players to the game's systems, including skills, equipment, crafting, combat, and character progression. Completing the remaining acts should therefore make the overall progression structure feel more substantial.
A sword-focused character joins the roster
The Duelist is another major part of the 1.0 announcement. Designed around sword and shield combat, the class gives players a new option for fast-paced melee gameplay.
The Duelist's identity combines mobility with defensive flexibility. Sword attacks provide the offensive foundation, while shield mechanics can help players survive close-range encounters. This combination should make the class appealing to players who enjoy staying in the middle of a fight rather than attacking from a distance.
Its backstory adds further personality. The character trained from a difficult childhood for the Grand Arena before the Fall of Oriath changed his path. His later role as a defender of those who cannot defend themselves provides context for his combat-focused identity.
Early Access becomes free access
Perhaps the most consequential part of the announcement for newcomers is the game's new price structure. Path of Exile 2 will become free-to-play when Version 1.0 launches.
During Early Access, purchasing a Supporter Pack has been necessary to gain entry. That requirement will disappear on December 11, allowing anyone to download and experience the game without an initial purchase.
Players who already bought Supporter Packs will retain their benefits. Their store points and other rewards remain available, ensuring that early supporters are not disadvantaged by the transition.
The economy remains gameplay focused
The free-to-play structure also preserves the game's emphasis on gameplay-driven progression. Path of Exile 2 Currency remains useful for crafting and trading, while equipment can be acquired through normal play and player-to-player transactions.
Optional purchases primarily involve cosmetic effects, hideout decorations, and stash-related conveniences. The model therefore keeps combat progression separate from direct purchases.
As more players enter the game after December 11, the trading environment could become especially active. New players will be looking for equipment, while experienced players will have opportunities to trade items and currency.
Preparing your character for launch
Players can use the remaining Early Access period to study builds and understand which equipment will be useful after Version 1.0. Those planning to experiment with the Duelist should pay particular attention to sword and shield requirements.
For players who prefer convenience, buy POE2 Currency may seem like a straightforward way to prepare, but understanding what a build actually needs is still important. Effective planning can prevent resources from being spent on upgrades that do not contribute meaningfully to a character.
The December 11 launch represents a major turning point for the sequel. With a broader campaign, a new melee class, and free access, Path of Exile 2 will soon enter a new phase of its life.
