Cenforce is marketed as a sildenafil-containing medicine for erectile dysfunction (ED). Sildenafil belongs to the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor class and increases blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. Having a history of hypertension does not automatically mean sildenafil cannot be used, but blood pressure control, cardiovascular health, and current medications should be assessed by a healthcare professional first.

Sildenafil can lower blood pressure modestly. This effect may be greater when it is combined with certain blood-pressure medicines, particularly alpha-blockers. Therefore, men taking antihypertensive treatment should tell their doctor or pharmacist about every medicine they use before taking sildenafil.

The most important contraindication is the use of nitrate medicines, such as nitroglycerin or isosorbide. Combining nitrates with Cenforce can cause a potentially dangerous drop in blood pressure. Sildenafil should also not be combined with riociguat.

Men with hypertension that is well controlled may potentially use sildenafil when a healthcare professional determines that sexual activity and the medication are appropriate. However, uncontrolled or severe cardiovascular disease requires medical evaluation before treatment.

The strength of Cenforce also matters. Standard sildenafil dosing for ED generally starts at 50 mg and can be adjusted to 25–100 mg according to effectiveness and tolerability; it should not be taken more than once daily.

Seek urgent medical attention for chest pain, fainting, severe dizziness, sudden vision or hearing loss, or an erection lasting longer than four hours.
